Blue Ridge MTA Hymn Festival, 2012

On Saturday, November 17, 2012, the Blue Ridge Music Teachers Association held our annual Kelly Strickland Hymn Festival at Grayson Hall in Snyder Auditorium of Wytheville Community College. The festival is named in memory of Kelly Strickland, founder and first president of the BRMTA, who taught in Marion, Virginia, for many years. She deeply appreciated the rich heritage of church music and initiated this hymn festival as a way to foster a love of hymn playing within the BRMTA students.  Twenty-one students from the studios of Ellen Corbett (Marion), Lisa Moxley (Bluefield), Melody Payne (Marion), and Catherine Valley (Wytheville) performed hymn arrangements in a variety of styles.

From my studio, Michael played "God Is So Good", Ashlyn performed "Jesus Loves Me", Ally played "Amazing Grace", Joshua performed "Now Thank We All Our God", Hannah played "Rock of Ages", Ben performed "It Is Well With My Soul", and Jarrod played "This Little Light of Mine".

I am so proud of (front row) Ally, Michael, Ashlyn, Joshua, (back row) Hannah, Jarrod, and Ben! Congratulations to the performers from all the studios for such a successful event!
